What can I do to avoid gum disease?
Gum disease (periodontal disease) is a bacterial infection that attacks the gum and bone supporting the teeth. In fact, the most current research links gum disease to heart disease, stroke, and other systemic aliments. In the early stages, gum disease is not apparent to the patient. Just as high blood pressure is called “the silent killer,” gum disease is the “silent killer” of your teeth. The earlier periodontal disease is detected, the sooner you can get it under control. If your gums are bleeding, even slightly, it is often a sign of gum disease.
Does whitening your teeth hurt?
We recommend BriteSmile™ which is gentle and painless. All you need to do is sit back, relax, and watch TV or listen to music for an hour and your smile will be noticeably brighter.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. Implants help to prevent bone loss and gum recession, which often accompanies bridgework or dentures. Implants do not sacrifice the quality of your adjacent teeth because neighboring teeth are not altered for support. Implants are secure and offer freedom from the clicks and wobbles of dentures. The success rate of implants is highly predictable.
How do I know when its time for my next check up?
Our office will send you a reminder card, give you a call, email you, or even text-message when you are due for your next visit. Please note that the ADA says most people need to visit their dentist more frequently and check ups every six months are highly recommended.
